Child in Shadow --Mongolia

The streets of Ulan Bator envelop the mind in shadow.  You are never far away from the history of the Mongols even as you see this young child wrapped in shadow and sunlight.  Beside her you hear the deep male voices of Mongol men moving rapidly in an out of view from your eye and your lens--their thoughts often in bewilderment, struggling between the modern world which they view as easily conquered, as easily as the Chinese fell to Genghis Khan.  And yet the world has overtaken them, for now--pawns perhaps to multinational miners, paying lip service to these ancient warriors.  An interesting fact about the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 was that the initial wave of invading Soviet soldiers were from Mongolia--they headed the tank divisions.

September 13th, Ulan Bator, Mongolia.  Taken with the Olympus EP3 and 17mm lens.

  2. I love the shadows on her face, the man behind her, the people in the background.
