This photograph is of an aging native bull rider at the Douglas Lake Rodeo preparing to mount a bull. It was taken in 2008 when I began photographing the native rodeos in BC.  Once the rider is on the bull and the gate is opened, there is always the danger that the bull will not leap out into the open air of the ring, but push himself and the rider hard against the gate and the ring walls.  The rider would be crushed and injured.  You must possess a mixture of courage and stupidity to ride bulls. When you get older, its tough to know when to quit as the thrill has become an addiction.   I've always believed that the possibility of death, is one of the attractions of being a cowboy.
